As of this year, our factory now runs on 100% renewable electricity for its power requirements. While we still have to use gas in the winter to heat the building, reducing our carbon footprint by pivoting to renewable electricity is a step towards the future we would like to build: both for ourselves, and for whoever comes after.
Supplied by British Gas, and verified by Carbon Trust, a non-profit organisation pushing for an accelerated journey towards net zero, we’re gratified to have the opportunity to further reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy resources, and therefore to limit the damage normal business operations can cause to our environment. As our priority is to leave the planet a better world, this move towards running our factory and business on renewable energy is one that we feel serves our interests towards building a climate-beneficial business.

Renewable energy for climate-positive change
Renewable energy sources such as those offered by British Gas – including wind, solar, and hydroelectric – have been readily available for individuals for years. But it has taken a slightly longer time for businesses to adopt renewable energy sources, mostly due to the scale and operational complexities involved.
A significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions emanate from the use of non-renewable resources: coal, oil, and gas are the largest contributors to global climate change, and a direct cause of the worsening climate conditions. To avoid the worst impacts that have been forecasted – such as climate migration, drought, and rising temperatures that will lead to food scarcity and uninhabitable locations around the world – reducing these emissions and pivoting our energy use to zero-emission sources is critical.

Switching to renewable energy as a business
As a company, we prioritise and push for a better future for all. Our partnership with Ecologi, and the two-year search for a sustainable locally-sourced timber have been positive moves towards a long-term plan to reduce the impact of operations to a minimum, however we can always do more.
Switching to renewable energy offers us the opportunity to do just that, and while there’s only so much we can do as a single business to help turn back the harm, every little bit that we can do helps. The future we want to see – equal, green, and supportive – is only achievable if we make the first steps to attain it, and with the switch, we hope it inspires others to take their first step.
